Reclaim You

Listen, you cannot change people.

You can talk until you are blue in the face. You can counsel until the cows come home. You can model proper behavior. You can plead, cry, scream and yell, but until they are ready to change, they won’t.

Perhaps they have great potential and with a few small tweaks they could really do something great. You build; you encourage and do your best to keep them in a good mental space. You listen and counsel and listen some more. You call out behaviors and point out patterns. You speak the truth and remind them what true love and real friendship looks like…

You help when you can. You make yourself available. You take every call. You problem solve on demand. You mindlessly give because that’s who you are until one day you realize the well has run dry. Your joy-tank is totally depleted.

Clearly, they are stuck, but now, so are you!

You feel empty. You feel numb. You feel cold inside. Depression sets in, but no one seems to notice. They continue to dump the mistakes they refuse to correct.
