Sometimes it’s hard to block out the negative thoughts and voices that come against our dreams and purpose. As if achieving the goal is not hard enough, you daily battle negative self-talk… ‘Who are you kidding? You’ll never pull that off! You’re not smart enough, creative enough. You don’t have the resources. You don’t have the backing. You don’t even have the platform. You’re stuck. You have no idea how to move forward. Your dream will die. Everyone will laugh at you. You might as well fold that dream up and tuck it way in the back of the drawer. It will never happen. Nice try.’
The negative chatter and the people who hurl these words at our ears and spirit, easily become GIANTS in our lives. Giants that taunt us at every turn robbing us of sleep and creativity, poking tiny holes in our dreams, depleting us of the necessary strength, courage and hope to move forward.
But here’s where we can take a page out of David’s book. David was a fearless shepherd. He killed a bear and a lion with his bare hands. One day while attending his brothers at the battle site, he overhears Goliath going on and on about what he was going to do to Saul and his army. David’s righteous indignation stood up and he belted out, “Who is this uncircumcised Philistine?”
David decides HE will fight Goliath. He declines to wear Saul’s armor and instead uses what he is familiar with…a sling and some stones. Can you imagine? A sling and stones against a giant?? Well, Goliath got a real kick out of this as he hurled slurs, but David remained unbothered! And you remember the story, David called on the name of the Lord and slung his shot and to everyone’s surprise, Goliath came tumbling down!!
What are you facing? Which giant is threatening your dream and your purpose? Stop trying to be like someone else. Stop trying to use what they use. You don’t need to mimic what you see. It’s ok that you don’t sound like them, look like them, or have what they have. What’s in your hand? You absolutely have what it takes, but you will have to face your giant! Understand that the gift God gave you is intended for you. And the giant you are facing is also divinely assigned to you. Anybody can fight, but the real question is, can you win? And the answer is, yes! A million times, yes!!!! So, roll up your sleeves. Speak to that giant. Trust in your God. And get back to the business of creating!
